Your massage will be given by a massage therapist who has received many hours of training in several types of massage as well as basic anatomy and physiology. Our massage therapists use an eclectic approach to their work, combining several different massage styles. A variety of techniques will be used to tailor a session to meet your needs. Your massage will take place in a quiet, comfortable room. Soft background music may be playing to create a calm and relaxing environment. During your massage you will lie on a comfortable table between two sheets and a blanket. You may choose to be totally or partially clothed under the drape. The massage therapist will be very professional and keep you properly covered at all times. Tense muscles are often sore, and may hurt a little when massaged. It will be important for you to let the massage therapist know if you experience discomfort at any time. Massage helps to release waste products that are stored in fatty and muscle tissue into the blood stream. You should drink plenty of water after the massage to help flush these waste products out of your system. Painful or Tight Muscles Massage relieves most muscle tightness by acting directly on your muscles with stretching and kneading motions. It also stimulates the nervous system to instruct the muscles to relax even more. Injuries Massage can treat injuries you develop over time, such as tendonitis as well as ligament sprains or muscle strains caused by overuse or accidents. Inflammation is reduced through increased circulation which brings nutrition to the injured area and removes waste products. This creates the optimum environment for healing. Certain massage techniques can limit scar tissue in new injuries, and can reduce, or make more pliable, scar tissue in old injuries. Massage can also relieve the contracted muscles and pain caused by abnormal spinal curvatures such as scoliosis. Migraine and Frequent Headaches There are many causes of migraine and frequent headaches. Tight muscles in the neck and upper back, tension in the jaw from clenching teeth, poor circulation of the cerebral/spinal fluid, in addition to fatigue, tension, anxiety and stress.
